#AustinSidewalkProject

It all started in Parkside Village...

In 2020, I mapped my first sidewalks on OpenStreetMap. I'd been using OSM for a few years, but not very frequently, and never with a specific purpose. That changed in a Southwest Austin parking lot, when I saw a sidewalk under a tree, and thought it would be neat to add it to the map.

I went from there, adding sidewalks to my neighborhood, then to other streets nearby, around my school, and eventually all across Austin. Since that fateful day, I've made over 300,000 map edits. Oops.

The ASP Progress Map is the best place to follow the project. It can occasionally lag behind the actual extent of mapped sidewalks, because I have to update it manually, but it's still the most accurate place to follow the ASP besides OpenStreetMap itself.
